    ATM strategy order issue

I encounter a problem in your system when I trade atm order . My trading logic is as follows: When I enter a long atm order, if there is still a short atm order in my account, I will close this short order first and then enter the long order.

To close the short order, the system is suppose to show "entry" as entry name and "target" as exit name. However, system shows that the order entry name is "Target1" and exit name is "Entry". This results a few pending orders in superdom when I restart ninjatrader next time , and I have to close them manually.

Please advice how to solve this problem.

    Thanks,

    Hello thompson,

Unfortunately, this can be as expected. For example, you are in a short position with active ATM orders. Subsequently you submit a buy order with an ATM strategy attached as well. The buy entry order closes the short position. So the exit order for the short trade is labeled as Entry.

Then the profit target fills which was triggered after the buy order filled. This order creates a new position, so the entry order is labeled as Target1. The next sell order you submit closes the long position and labels the exit order as Entry.

To avoid this, I recommend to close positions which have active ATM orders by modifying the ATM orders so it closes the position. Either modify the stop loss or profit target to the current market price. This way the exit order will be named Target1 or Stop1.

So avoid submitting buy entry orders when in a short position with active ATM orders and sell orders when in a long position with active ATM orders.

Thanks. If I don't modify as you suggest, will it always cause a few pending orders in superdom when I restart ninjatrader next time? As these trades are not placed by me, I want to ensure they are due to the reason as you explained.
      Thanks,

I am not sure what caused these pending orders. Are these orders that show a PendingSubmit status in the Control Center-->Orders-tab or do they show an Active or Working status?

Could it be these were ATM orders that were generated by an entry order that closed an existing position? So that entry order put you flat, however you still had active ATM orders on.
