Changing Panels for Bollinger Bands/RSI in a Strategy

Hello all... I think I found a bug...

As I recently posted... I'm attempting to use one indicator as the input series of another indicator... in this case... it's the Bollinger Bands, fed the input of the RSI...

So... after I set everything up... I wanted to visualize it on the chart (in a seperate panel from the main chart)... so I clicked on the "plot on chart" field and selected true, for both the RSI which will do the crossing over... and the BollingerBands(RSI) which will be crossed over.

Well... as mentioned above... I'd like for these to show up overlaid, one on top of the other... just like I have them via the normal "overlay" field in the "indicators" window.

However... , what I get instead is the RSI in a new panel... and the bollinger bands in the main chart window... squishing the chart into a thin line at the top of the screen... oh yeah... I could trade that no problem...

Have I just discovered that it is not possible to overlay this "strategy generated" bollinger band setup, over the "strategy generated" RSI in a "new panel," one on top of the other, instead of in the main chart panel squishing the main chart data into uber untradableness? (Now THAT's what I call a FLAT market).

    This forum is amazing!

    Hello Aurum,

    Thanks for your post.

The BollingerBands by design work on the price data and that is why they automatically plot on the price panel. When you changed the input from price to RSI, you changed the input mathematics of the BollingerBand to then be around the RSI values which are significantly different from price and that is why you have the scrunched effect.

If you want to visualize the BollingerBands with an RSI input on the price chart it would need to be done directly from the indicator. As you have observed doing so from the strategy does not give you access to the full indicators options. So modify your strategy to turn off plotting the BollingerBands. Add the BollingerBands indicator with RSI input to the chart and change the "scale justification" to "Overlay"

Please let me know if you have further questions.
