My solution: Charts (almost) realtime on my Android smartphone

I wanted to see my NT charts (almost) realtime on my Android smartphone.
So I searched for a solution which I have found now. Maybe a little bit blunt way but it works .
I use Windows 7 and have an Android smartphone (Samsung Gal S4, Android version 3.4).

First I used Dropbox but that is not really syncing with an Android phone. Then you can additionally use the Dropsync app which detects the changes better but it has a minimum interval of 5 minutes. And I want a minimum of 1 minute or even faster.
But then I found GoodSync and this is the real sync software imo. (It doesn’t use cloud storage but makes a kind of PeerToPeer connection.)

So here are the steps to take:
1Add Strategy SaveChartToPNG (see attachment) to a NT chart.
oI modified another strategy (see link under) quick and dirty and renamed it SaveChartToPNG. I don’t know if it is perfect but it does the job.
oMake a new directory where the chart can be saved (best is one directory per chart) and fill the path at the parameters and don’t forget the last backslash (\) ! NT will overwrite each time the screenshot (png) in this directory.
oYou can use for example a 1 minute chart and set COBC=true. But per tick is also possible but it will cost you more CPU and mobile data…
2Install GoodSync on your PC and register/login
3Install GoodSync Server (App) on your Android smartphone and login
4In GoodSync on your PC: setup a new task to detect changes of the directory where NT overwrites the chart (every bar or tick). You only need to sync in one direction (PC to smartphone). You can also set a syncinterval with a minimum of 1 minute.
5Install the app Slideshow (Homescreen widget). I have also the Widget Locker app on my smartphone so I have the chart directly in my lock screen (so I only have to push 1 button to see the chart). In the widget you can specify the chart directory and the refresh interval.
So now you will have an updated chart (photo) in your widget.
I hope I didn’t forget anything. Of course there are a lot of options but you can probably figure them out yourself.

    Remarks:
Link and strat I used (originally from OregonSun): http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/forum/local_links.php?action=sendtofriend&catid=6&linkid =377
-Till now GoodSync is free, after 30 days it is possible you have to pay once about 25 EUR (depending on how many files and sync jobs you have). But I have used it only a few days so I don’t know about that at the moment.
-Instead of GoodSync you can of course also use Dropbox in combination with the DropSync app but that’s limited to an interval of 5 minutes ( I have asked them for a smaller interval but haven’t heard of them yet).
-Data over 3g/4g etc. can give costs !!!
-In Widget Locker you can change the gridsize to better fit the chart
-Use at own risk, I am not responsible for any damage whatsoever
-Improvements or better ideas are always welcome

Why so complicated ? why not set up some remote desktop application and just connect from your smartphone ? If you have LTE and good connection the charts will be real time. What I did long time ago I have set up account at logmein.com so you can access your desktop from anywhere and installed their app on my android phone. The solution worked like a charm except it was awkward to place trades or cancel them. Not sure whether the logmein provides free remote access now, I'm waiting for the Note 4 to be release to go back to mobile charts.

      For the NinjaTrader team:
This is a big missing part for the ninjatrader platform not to have mobile trading solution. Nowdays with all smartphones this would be very popular especially for people who don't have luxury to spend the whole day in from of the screen mobile solution would be a savior.

I don't think the mobile solution needs to be fancy but just a chart with chart trader portion and tab selection would satisfy 80% of the requirements. Add multi-tabs for different charts, and it would be a perfect application

Thanks for sharing those thoughts with us vitaliys, we appreciate it. A mobile solution is definitely an important item for our future developments and already tracked as enhancement in product management.

          Hi Vitaliys,
It was my goal to have my charts in a simple way on my smartphone, without the need to log in or navigate to a chart.
I also use Logmein and Teamviewer already a few years. But you have to login and then you have to navigate to the chart you want to see. And with 3 screens on my desktop that is not a quick thing on my smartphone... And I don't have the need to place orders because my strats are fully automated. And when I want that I can always login with Logmein or Teamviewer.
My solution was specific for an easy quick view on my charts. I can see my charts with just one click (turning on the screen) on in the screen lock: very easy and very little battery drain.
By the way, I don't use Goodsync anymore but Dropbox in combination with DropSync. In addition I use Tasker to update the charts when the screen goes on and when I have a 3G connection/wifi or better.

          PS
I assume something like this should also work on the iPhone
