    Using RTH candles, trading 24/7

    Hi,

I want a strategy to trade 24/7 but for the conditions to be based on the candles from a RTH chart. How would I do this?

If I apply the strategy to a RTH chart then it only trades within RTH.

    Thanks.

You delimit your conditions with a time filter, so that conditions are only processed within that time window.

      Hi,

I know how to limit by using a time filter, so I could make it trade only between RTH on a ETH chart.

But how do I delimit, so it trades ETH on a RTH chart?

      Thanks for your reply.

There will be no non-RTH data on an RTH chart, so I should think it will be physically and logically impossible to do what you ask, as you cannot process data that is not present.

          Hello ScottieDog,

          Thank you for your post.

Koganam is correct here, if the session template is set to RTH hours than there is no method to access bars outside that time frame. Using Koganam's suggestion to use the ETH session template and then use a time filter for the conditions will work.

You can also create vertical lines to show visually on the chart where the RTH hours are within the ETH bars on the chart.

You can use DrawVerticalLine() to achieve this item: http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/h...rticalline.htm

For a reference sample on using a time filter please visit the following link: http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/f...ead.php?t=3226

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

            Hi,

I´ve drawn a picture of what I want to do, maybe i´m not explaining it well in words. Trying to get into this, it´s currently hard for me to figure it out as this is the first strategy I have done.

Simple example of a YM RTH Daily Chart attached.

My simple strategy currently buys the high of previous candle and sells the low of the previous candle. I have this working fine now, either in RTH or ETH on either chart.

Applying to a RTH chart, but trading whenever the break occurs

The problem is that if I use this strategy on the RTH chart then it doesn´t take the entry until the open of the RTH session, which in this case was approximately 14866, this misses 80 ticks or so of GAP. The entry should have been on the break up of the low candle, approximately 14782.

I have marked the candle high breaks, and the candle low breaks, on the RTH chart... So what I want to do is to buy the high of the previous bar on the RTH chart, of course the break up of this bar may be in RTH or ETH, in the case of the first buy entry the break up of this low candle was in ETH as there is a large gap... How do I get the strategy to buy the break up of the RTH candle (which in this case was in ETH)?

Create and use a session template that trades the exact periods that you want to trade.

                Hello ScottieDog,

                Thank you for your response.

You would need to use a session template that covered the data you need for these trades. Trades cannot be placed if the data is not available. The session template dictates the data used by the chart and strategy.
