Seriously? Yes I know what SendKeys does. You clearly missed the exaggeration of my post. Anyone using SendKeys is not developing software, they are making hacky garbage (ie screen scrape, faking button clicks).

I agree with you on everything that you say in this paragraph. However, I will also use a workaround, (are not all workaround's actually hacky?), if the framework developer refuses or does not disclose an API to do something that I need done. Is that in fact not why the ability to send specific keys exists in the first place (i.e., as a hacky workaround when nothing else seems to fit)?

I am surprised there are not more software developers in this space. Or if there are, they hide in the shadows so as not to divulge anything. It seems that most of the content in the support forums are from (semi-)experienced traders pointing out slight calculation/timing errors with NT, or wannabe programmers asking how to make a line blue.

Is this really not the solution for anyone trying to make a real automated trading system? It seems NT is for the day trader who wants to try and automate his thought process with a few dozen or MAYBE hundred lines of code, and not for any real automation.

I agree. I do not think NT is made to be a full-blown automated, self-adjusting, quasi AI, trading system. It does appear designed more for automating simple trading processes, and providing visual cues for manual trading.

I wasn't insulting everyone. Saying most of these people are not software developers is both a fact (most are traders with very little development experience) and not an insult. I certainly would not be offended with a Doctor saying I wasn't a Doctor.

My point was that the two worlds don't seem to have anywhere to collide. You have traders (some who are very seasoned and successful, I am sure) and you have developers (who know how to code, but know little about trading). Where is the platform for developers who really want to develop software without having to go back to assembly to do it (<- that is exaggeration).

This is my point/concern. I think starting from scratch might be necessary. It's a shame because all of the pieces are there in NT or MultiCharts or probably any number of others. They just don't expose the capability. Seriously, how hard is it to make a function to restart a strategy (hint: it already exists and is called when the strategy is applied initially).

Not in the slightest given that if I have such little knowledge in a space that I need to ask something so basic, I would KNOW that I am not a programmer.

If I asked "how do I put on a bandaid" on WebMD, I certainly would not be offended by a Doctor calling me a "wannabe". Clearly I am not a Doctor.

You have clearly been around a while. Browse the forums again with this perspective. Mostly the two categories I mentioned are there. Something not quite right with calculations/backtesting numbers/etc or people asking programming questions that would all be answered and known by anyone who read "Learn C# in 21 Days".
