    Manage exit for discretionary position

    Hi,

Is it possible to manage the exit of a manually entered position?
And if so how does one go about doing this?
I tested OnOrderUpdate, OnExecution and OnPositionUpdate but the orders
    didn't show up.

    Thanks

Unfortunately not. You may want to use an ATM strategy in this case though.

I think this is possible, I am working on the idea of a discretionary entry with an automated exit. I've only just started with NT, so I'm not executing live yet, but it's working on simulated data feed. What I do is create a condition that will always be true for my entry. I do this simply by creating two variables in the wizard, one has a value of 1 and the other has a value of 2. I test to see if 2 is greater than one, and this triggers my entry.

So, in effect, when I deploy my strategy, I am submitting a buy/sell order.

        Hope this makes sense!

          Hi ngtodd,

Yep you're making a lot of sense, I've been thinking of the same thing.
The only drawback is that you'll have less control over your entry and entering a position takes more time, which can be either good or bad.

          Cheers

Any progress on this issue? I’m badly needing the same and am thinking in the ball park of the same utilizing OnExecution or OnPositionUpdate.
It’s too bad NT does not support this, since the question arises how do they manage the Dome then?!
That must have some way of knowing an order has been filled, canceled etc.?
My guess is they also use one of the self triggered events utilizing synthetic parameters?

              Hi MK,

My strategy is still in development and is likely to remain so for the next two months. However, I am planning to keep it as simple as possible to begin with. I will enter manually, say long, then execute a strategy that enters a short position when the price crosses a moving average. The moving average will therefore act as my stop loss, trailing stop and take profit when the price begins to stall and the MA approaches the price. Pretty crude really.

                Todd,
                Thanks for the quick response.
Your case is not too bad then Vs. mine, which I use the DLL to enter a trade but to get the fill price I must pause 3 seconds else it comes back 0!!!
SO I'm thinking to use one of the Event methods in an strategy with synthetic parameters hoping it might immediately sense the event and get it to give me the Fill price.

                  Josh,
which event-driven methods is NT using to register and show a trade on a chart as soon as a trade occurs then?

This is driven by internal methods that report executions.

Any particular reason why the users can't benefit from such Methods too? Will they be included in the future upgrades(what can be more important than the users' platform being fully execution aware(that's all types of executions))?

We made a decision on what level of exposure we were willing to provide. What we have documented is what we support. In 6.5 we have increased the circle of supported methods. It is possible we may support what's in question in the future.

                          Hi Todd,
If you're still there, any progress on your strategy? Did it work live too?
Also, NT any updates if a method has since been added to inform of manual executions, thanks?
