Changing settings in an active strategy

A strategy generally uses a number of adjustable settings. Once the strategy is linked to a chart and active with an open trade, it would be normal that a moment in time you may want to change one of the settings. However, in NT you need to stop the strategy first and that ruins your open trade connection. Any strategy without this possibility to active adapt settings has not much sense. Is there any way how this can be handled?

You probably know that MT allows to adapt the strategy settings in any circumstance and because the link of any trade is not the strategy, but a so called magic number, I can open any number of strategies in different charts using the same magic number and all strategies will be applied to the same order. This is my opinion the ideal way of a strategy application.

Hi Sylvestro, thanks for the post and your thoughts shared on this item - to change parameters of a running strategy instance you would generally need to go through a disable / re-enable cycle unfortunately - we run an enhancement suggestion for future consideration though for the behavior you desire and I will make sure to add your vote in as well.

If your 'changed to' parameters are known in advance, for example linked to certain time periods in the trading day, you can change the settings through your code then, as OnBarUpdate() is called it assign different values then to your internal parameters the conditions would use.
