Strategy Sessions

Hi:

When starting Strategies, I have them set to stop entering new trades 30 min to session close and to exit all positions 1 min before the session close (for each particular instrument traded)...not the general flatten in Misc>Flatten...this is for each individual Strategy. I understand the Session close time is per each instrument in the instrument manager. However, the Strategies still do not close upon each instrument session close?

Hello,

It will be as per the session in the instrument manager if you're using "Use instrument settings" when starting your strategy or the session template you have on your chart if running from a chart.

If you have specified a session template, such as the CME US Index Futures ETH session template, the strategy will work based on the close of this session, regardless off the instrument that is trading.

When you say you have them set to stop entering new trades, have you done this using a Time Filter in the code?

If the strategies are not closing when you expect, can you clarify what instruments you are running the strategy on and exactly what session template you're using?

I have been assuming that I leave it on <Use Instrument Settings> and it would automatically pull the times for each individual instrument and apply. Is that wrong or correct? Or, does one actually have to choose one from the drop down menu in order for it to apply?

That would be correct - it will pull from the instrument settings in the instrument editor. Are you sure these are set to the session you expect them to be on?

I have not changed anything...when I click on the instruments in the instrument manager they are automatically set right? Or, should I select it from them dropdown menu that matches what is in the instrument manager?

How can I know for sure?

It should pull whatever we had set in the database by default.

Matt, where does that print to? On the charts?

Can you let me know what areas that would reflect?

That would print to the Tools--> Output window

This will help you ensure that the "Use Instrument Settings" your strategy is using is what you expect.

For example the ES should output: CME US Index Futures ETH
