Strategy newbie, getting started question(s)..

Hi all. I'm trying to dissect strategies, eager to begin writing my own. I looked at the sample sma crossover code. I see the calls to go short vs go long, but I wonder where the code is to close an open position as part of the strategy. So I'm wondering the basic gist of how to code enter/ exit conditions for a new position. Thanks in advance..
