    Problem with Renko bars

I am now using Renko bars as part of a strategy. I notice the following problem almost every day. The start of a finished bar is shifted in relation to the previous bar. See Renko.png for an example of the ES today (Renko = 8 ticks). The second last started green bar is 0.25 points shifted down. This makes the strategy completely unreliable. The last red bar is the real time bar in progress. I have the same problem on 2 different PCs running at the same time, one with Kinetick data and one with eSignal data. Refreshing the chart usually corrects the problem, but that is of course no solution for running an full auto strategy.
Can you please have a look...

    Hello Sylvestro,

Could you tell me what session template you are using? You can find this out by right clicking inside the chart and select Data Series.

Happy to be of further assistance.

The session template is set to the ES instrument. And that one is set to CME US Index Futures ETH.

          Hello Sylvestro,

The price of the Renko range is going to start at by the session template. So the variance that you are seeing is the change into a new session that can be off by 1 tick. You can try to use the "Default 24/7" template so that it will have less time in between each session or define your own by using the Session Manager.

You may view the link below for more information about the Session Manager.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

My opinion, if you look at Renko.png, the end of the previous session is the small horizontal line (yesterday's closing) and the first session bar is the red bar after that. From there on today's session is running. So, I do not see why we have this 1 tick shift within a running session...

              Hello Sylvestro,

Is that chart of Renko.png something that you can replicate?

If so can you provide me with the steps and setting used so that I may look into this. Note I will also need who you are connected to in the lower left corner of the Control Center.

Happy to be of further assistance.

I will record data to see if I can replicate screen shots taken when running live. For the moment markets are extremely quite, so it will probably take some time.
As I mentioned before I noticed this behaviour on 2 PC's, with NinjaTrader installed on both PC's and one with a Kinetick data connection and the other one with an eSignal data connection (with 1 minute charts I also noticed that there are many price differences between these providers).
I am trying now to use Renko charts with a fixed custom range for the dates (fixed start date), to find out if this makes any difference.

                    3 types of RENKO charts

Since I use a weekly session setting (Sunday 5:00PM till Friday 5:00PM) AND using a fixed date custom range for the data I did not have the problem anymore.

I do use RENKO charts as part of my trading strategy. I am also using RENKO charts in MetaTrader4. For me they are the perfect example of how RENKO charts should be displayed. I have added figures of the 3 chart possibilities and some explanation hereafter. It would be great if you would give this as an input to the development department. I hope they will be available soon...
RENKO PIP size: the size in pips of a RENKO brick.
PIP Offset: False or True defines if an offset will be used or not.
PIP Offset value: defining the starting offset value of the first RENKO brick (offset within the RENKO pip size).
                    Bar Type:
Standard Renko: creates a standard RENKO brick chart (figure RENKO_0)
RENKO with wicks: creates a RENKO chart with wicks (figure RENKO_1)
RENKO for Strategy Back Testing: special for correct buy/sell signals when back testing a strategy (figure RENKO_2)
                    Thank you,
                    Sylvestro

                      Hello Sylvestro,

                      Thanks for the update.

There are a few custom chart types that you can download and try out. Also you can create your own custom chart type using C#. For an example of a bar types file you can view one by going to (My) Documents\NinjaTrader 7\bin\custom\type\@BarTypes.cs.

Here are a few custom chart types that you can try out.

                        Thanks,

I want to have a look at the second link with the EdsRenko. However, I get a compilation error: no suitable method found to override. I have the impression I am missing some declarations. Or is this because it was written for NT version 6.5?

                          Hello Sylvestro,

That seems to be the case. I will update my previous post, thanks for letting me know.

Perhaps I should have mentioned the fault message when importing...
                            Here that message is attached...

                              Hello Sylvestro,

That was the same message that I received when trying to import it as well. It may have a reference that has been changed or removed which would be why it is not importing properly.
