Editing in the Custom Type folder

can someone please tell me how i can edit and compile items in the custom/type folder.

I.e. I want to edit the Genetic Optimizer, after implementing SaveAs for a new name and with a modification that will force the optimizer to - in Profit Factor mode - to not consider solutions that contain less than 20 trades.

I see several post concerning this type of action and can not figure out how to get into the edit mode.

    thanks in advance.

    Hello nanook77,

    Thank you for your post.

It is not possible to edit the .CS files in the Type folder through NinjaTrader's NinjaScript Editor. However, you can edit these files through Microsoft Visual C#. This is generally beyond our scope of support.
If you have Microsoft Visual C# installed on your PC you can go to My Documents\NinjaTrader 7\bin\Custom\Type > right click on the file you wish to edit > go to Open With > select Microsoft Visual C#.

Once you have completed editing the file you can then go to the NinjaTrader Control Center > Tools > Edit NinjaScript > Indicator > select any indicator > OK > then press F5 to compile within the NinjaScript Editor.

You can download Microsoft Visual C# from the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudi...csharp-express
Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

      Thanks - will do.
Also - i recently uploaded some new tick data and in the process, inadvertently overwrote a part of my db for which there was no new data. I have all my NT7 backups for the period, about 13GB, and computer was set to 'record for tick replay' is there anyway to reopen these backs and restore the lost tick data.

if so - please explain. thx in advance

        Hello nanook77,

        Thank you for your response.

You can restore NinjaTrader to a previous backup, if that backup has the tick data before it was altered then it will be restored as well. For information on restoring from a backup archive please visit the following link: http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/h...up_archive.htm

Thanks - very helpful. It does contain the data fwiw.
Important, if i start with the oldest backup and work forward, will each subsequent restore only wipe out data if it has new data for that contract period, or will it wipe out all the previous data?

          thanks in guys

            Hello nanook77,

            Thank you for your response.

The backup archives each will hold the historical chart data as it was backed up, if you restore going forward as you detailed you would be removing the previous data and restoring what was backed up in the restored archive.

Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.
