SetTrailStop and CalculationMode.Percent

Hi,

If I were to use the parameters mentioned above, where would the percentage point be calculated from.

For example if I had a long position and set the trail stop value to 0.1% , would it calculate the trail stop as (High[0] - 0.1%*High[0]), where the trail stop is adjusted dynamically only if a new high is formed?

Kay, the percentage would be calculated from the Position.AvgPrice (your entry price).

Correct, it would be adjusted dynamically as your trade reaches new equity peaks.

Hi Bertrand,

Hence if you set a trail stop at say 0.1%, that absolute value as oppose to relative value will be determined at the beginning and maintained for the rest of the trade unless it is adjusted by code?

Meaning to say, even if we have higher prices, the dollar value to the stop will remain the same unless your code makes the adjustment. Correct?

That would be for the initial stop Kay, once the trailing aspect kicks in, it's the high / low point of the trade.

So after a long entry, every new high achieved would have a stop at 0.1% from the high OR the same absolute value of 0.1% from the average price?

Sorry for this but I want to have clarity on how settrailstop works...and there's not much literature or examples in the manual.

No worries Kay, take a strategy in ES 12-11 being long since the midday higher low at 1142.50

Highest point in the trade seen, so far: last swing high at 1154.75

The % trail is at 0.005 - this will mean the current trail stop sits at 1149 (1154.74 - 5.77375 = rounded to ticksize gives 1149).
