Entering buy stop above and sell stop below market on same bar?

Hopefully I can get some help before the weekend but I've spent the last hour messing around trying to get a break-out system to place a buy stop above and a sell stop below the market on the same bar.

Can this be done? Or have I run into some kind of restriction?

My prices are good, but I get warnings saying I should check the documentation for reasons why it won't work.

adamus, this can be done in unmanaged mode in NT7 only - in managed mode you would run into internal order handling rules with this approach - http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/h...d_approach.htm

Could I do something sneaky like add the instrument as a second data series and run long against the primary, and short against the second?

I mean, that would probably be a quick work-around compared to writing a whole framework to run unmanaged orders.

Or I guess I simulate stop orders with market orders and a shorter time frame - not good for speed during backtesting though.

You'll still run into internal order handling rules when trying this on a multiseries script. If you want to place opposing orders at the same time then an unmanaged strategy is your best choice.

OK, I've handled it using a shorter time frame and market orders to simulate the stops.
