putting the pieces together

I am new to Ninjatrader but have seen stuff like what is showing in the attached screenshot (bad picture), with clear buy and sell triggers that appear to have excellent track records. From what I understand, folks put this stuff together for free download by Ninjatrader users. I currently have the free version of Ninjatrader with free EOD data from Kinetic. Is there any way to back-test strategies complete with draw-down information before spending any money on the platform, live data, or custom systems?

I'd also like some in defining two (2) terms with respect to Ninjatrader.

1. Indicators you can download generally include recommended buy-sell markers?
2. System refers to the 'automation' involved in having the software execute the trades?

Forgive me as I am entirely new to this level of sophistication in trading analysis. I currently use Thinkorswim to execute my trades.

Welcome to our forums and to NinjaTrader - indicators most often do not include any specific trigger signals, while strategy are normally used to automate trading execution. As you can customize in many ways using NinjaScript's coding facilities it's not always clear cut if a strategy or indicator is producing a certain visual, result.

You can use NinjaTrader 7 and Kinetick free end of day data to backtest strategies provided. For example we install a basic SMA CrossOver script per default with NT (looks for the SampleMACrossOverStrategy - http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/h...strategies.htm)
