    Moving Average Question

I'm trying to do a strategy but there is no displacement field in the strategy indicator like there is for the chart indicator. How can that be fixed. The offset in the strategy indicator will not do this.

    Thank you

    Hello TusTrader,

    Welcome to the NinjaTrader forums!

Displacement is used to alter the visual appearence of an indicator, but not its calculations.

What is it you're looking to do within the strategy?

I'm using a moving average crossover using the same value for the MA but the the displacement difference for the crossover.

As you create your strategy you can reference a value x bars ago, which is effectively the displacement.

Thanks Bertrand for the reply I just made those adjustments and ran the backtest and the summary still shows all zeros and the chart only shows one MA. In the parameters in the custom builder show the same period, the left side 0 in bars ago and 0 in the offset, the right side 1 in bars ago and 1 in the offset. I tried 0 in the right side offset and the results were the same,

Tustrader, please leave the offset just to 0, only the barsAgo should be needed here to recreate the displacement of the MA - can you perhaps upload a screenshot of your exact setup to check into for us?

            Thanks

Sorry this took so long. In the previous message I did say I tried it with offset 0 and 1.
              Thank you

Thanks, We see a screenshot now.

You're evaluating a crossing condition for two lines with the same parameters (WMA(7)). This won't ever cross because they're the same.

Ryan, The chart indicator has a displacemment field which sepeates the MAs but the indicator for the strategy wizard does not and Bertrand said the x bars ago would solve that problem. Try putting them on a chart using zero displacement on one and 1 for the displacement for the other and you will be able to see what I'm trying to do for the strategy indicator which does not have the provision for the displacement. Thank you.

Yes, if you set the bars ago value for one of these indicators there will be some distinction and possibility of crossing. Please see my screenshot which shows setting the bars ago value for one of these.

The screen you attached does not indicate if barsAgo was specified. Can you post a screenshot of your condition builder?

Here is Tuctrader's screen. It is set-up like yours, but it is not giving any displacements.

The strategy won't provide a visual displacement. If you set plot on chart = true, it plots the indicator selected but not displaced.

If you're looking to visualize this displacement you have to add the indicator manually and set this displacement.

I did notice one issue with this when creating through the wizard. I will get back to you once I find out more.

We're trying to set this up as an auto trade. So we need the displacement in the strategy. Can we create a copy of the actual indicator that has the displacement field and put that in our strategy. I realize we will have to take the strategy out of the wizard which is not desireable. I just wish we could get the same indicator that the regular ninja chart uses. thanks
