    Overnight Positions?

    Hi,

I'm paper trading a strategy which holds overnight positions. At the end of the trading day, I disconnect and shut down the platform.
When I connect and switch back the strategy, what does it happen to my positions? Does the strategy keep them into account?

    Thanks!

    Hi stefy,

The positions will remain on your SIM101 account.

    When re-applying the strategy...

In 6.5 you may need to ensure the account positions and strategy positions is in sync by manually submitting orders.
    More info at - http://www.ninjatrader-support.com/H...ccountPosition

With 7, you have the option to have the strategy automatically attempt to "SyncAccountPosition"

OK. Just to make sure we're on the same page:

My purpose is to keep positions rolling overnight, so:

      a) I trade from account Sim101
      b) I shut down NT and the connection at night
      c) In the morning, I re-start my strategy (and the option "sync account position" is ON). If I re-start my strategy before the trading session starts, it doesn't matter if "sync account position" is ON or not.

      Correct?

      Thanks

        Hi stefy,

I'm not sure I follow on your mention of
"it doesn't matter if "sync account position""

As detailed in the the following link, you will need this option on for the strategy to attempt to sync:

Let me explain with one example:

Yesterday I went long 1 lot and this morning I had a signal to go long another lot, but I was not connected. I connect in the afternoon, and I would like the platform to take into account that this morning it would have gone long the second lot, so that, if I were to get an exit signal tomorrow morning, I will exit my long by 2 lots.
Which option should I select to achieve such a behavior?

          Thanks

            Hi stefy,

For that you will want to select Immediately submit live working orders, AND Sync account position.

Overnight positions with limit order entries

              NT Support,

I've carefully read through your documentation on "Syncing Account Positions" and I don't see how I can use the Strategy.Position.MarketPosition or Strategy.Position.Quantity if my strategy carries overnight positions and enters on limit orders. The NT model looks like the strategy is the driver rather than the position in the account. If my strategy enters using a limit order there is no way that it can correctly match the fills I actually receive from the market when it replays itself in historical mode to bring it to the current bar.

Furthermore, my strategies carry positions overnight which require that at some point I must shut down NT and restart it after my broker refreshes the Pats connection at the end of the day. Am I correct in assuming in this case that my NT strategy will need to manage the position itself?

              Please help,

              TFH

                TFH -

Yes, the strategy is driven by the strategy position. Everything has to match up identical, so it can be challenging to sync a prior instance of the strategy run with a historical, especially when using CalculateOnBarClose.

A previously generated order is considered to match an active strategy order when the order action, order type, quantity, limit price, and stop price are exactly identical.

If you're having trouble syncing with overnight positions, you could consider running the strategy continuously overnight. If this is not a possibility, you could move to a real time only strategy and manually manage any positions that remain when the strategy must be disabled.
