Will strat "ExitLong" a position it didn't open?

I have a strategy that will not place orders on historical bars. If I start the strategy during a period in which it is long, and it wants to exit that position with "ExitLong", what will happen? Will it put me short or does it know that it never actually placed that long? I know what must be done in either case, I just need to know if I need more code.

This is probably basic stuff that I can find by rooting around the forum but I NEEEEED some sleep..
