Backtesting Pitfalls

Hi everyone,
I am new to strategy development and I am looking for some feedback from anyone who has ever created a strategy that backtested successfully and had either similar or different experiences when they went live. I am looking to avoid all potential pitfalls and would consider anyones shared experiences to be invaluable. I would like to see this thread become a resource for anyone trying to create automated strategies.

As I said I am new but I can offer this tip,

It is my understanding that when testing if you use intrabar granularity you are more likely to get accurate results.
