Initialize property based on InstrumentType

How do I initialize a property in my strategy depending on the InstrumentType?
For example; if I use my strategy on a chart that has InstrumentType.Future, then use y value in property, else if InstrumentType.Currency, then us x value in property.

I do not think the data exists in initialization, so the data type will not be accessiable. If you feel this is incorrect I can confirm it for you. Just let me know.
