Historic data gone

I had ES minute data from the beginning of the year, 06-09 rolled up to 09-09. Yesterday I upgraded from 6.5.1000.9 to .11. Today when trying to chart minute data from Jan 1 to now I seem to only get the data for the current front month contract. My strategy backtesting shows the same. Looks like my previous data has been lost and a fresh bunch downloaded for ES 09-09. Any ideas as to what I may have done wrong?

laparker, this is unfortunately expected, since those are not continuous contracts > you would need to merge the historical data from the prior contact into the new one when rolling over to the new front month - http://www.ninjatrader-support.com/H...eV6/Merge.html

Thanks for your swift reply.
I did exactly what you wrote and have been running with the merged contract successfully, since rollover. My problem is that this merged data has now gone and I have only the data for the 09-09 contract. Are you saying that the data has to be re-merged every time there is a software update?

laparker, you're welcome - thanks for clarifying, did you just upgrade or did you also delete the MyDocuments > NinjaTrader 6.5 folder in which your data would be stored? Do you have a backup from the old 1000.9 which you could restore?

ok - I only upgraded the s/w, did not delete anything. I will have a backup. What is the name of the file that needs restoring? I guess if I restore an old file, NT will download the required data to catch up on all my working instruments. I infer from your reply that once a contract has been merged, it should persist and that something has, therefore, gone wrong with the file.

Correct, if you upgrade it will reuse the build up historical data in the database. To restore, just use the latest ntbk file before you did the upgrade to 1000.11

I know I'm being incredibly dense, but what is ntbk file? I can't locate one on my live system so there sure won't be one in my backup archive. Can you give me a full file name along with its location, to restore.

This is the file format NinjaTrader stores your backups in, those are located in the MyDocuments > NinjaTrader BackUp folder. You can restore by going to File > Utilities > Restore.

wow, this is hard! What you are referring to sounds like some sort of NT, internal backup and restore. I do not run this utility so don't have the files you mention. I have a fully automated, external backup system that backs up at the o/s file level. So what I need is the names of the file or files that I would need to restore to reset all the data to where it was prior to the upgrade.

Just check your backups for the NinjaTrader.mdb file you used and copy this one then with NinjaTrader closed into the MyDocuments\NinjaTrader 6.5\db folder.
