Time Frames

Hello,

I am working on an automated trading.
I am planning day trading and 2 to 10 days trading.

What time frames do you advice on using with Ninja Trader?

That's the beauty of trading. Everyone has their own style, methods, reasoning, etc.

If you are swing trading, I would say most people look at a larger chart like a 1 day chart, or maybe a 60m chart.

For day trades, a smaller time frame like 1m or maybe even smaller, like 5 range or 233 tick, depending on what your goal is. If your goal is 1 point on the ES, then maybe 233 tick or 5 range. If your goal is 10 points on ES, then you need a larger time frame.

With both scenarios you will need to look at more than just one chart. I day trade for 1-5 points per on the ES. I have a "left-to-right" approach. Using (3) 22" monitors, on the far left I have the big picture 30m chart, then to the right of that a 5m chart, then to the right a 6 range, then to the right a 233 tick.

Still, many people I know look at an even bigger picture than that, and also many people I know only look at one chart.

Again, that's the beauty of trading -- to each his own.
