Anyone Making money???

(newbie here) Since there are not a lot of "brag" posts in this topic, I gues no one is making money. Seriously though, is anyone making pips with his/her script over longer periods?

I just started creating scripts (and having fun with backtesting) and when I read this post I have my work cut out for me.

Do you have daily data recorded or are you just using the strategy analyzer?

Trading is difficult because 99% of us are wired up the same - hence we all fight with each other to get the same trades.

Whether its RSI or Stochastics there isn't a huge amount of difference.

For me the holy grail consists of 3 things

1. write your plan down and have absolute discipline - still working on that
2. keep constant and detailed records
3. work out your position sizing - I make more money playing with that than anything else

I employ 3 indicators - a moving average oscillator and a lin reg oscillator and an elliot wave type indicator. Half the time I forget that I have any of them!

To me - trading is like a box of chocolates you pull the lever and never know what you are going to get on THIS trade. If you have an edge overall then you MUST have faith over a number of trades.

I'll post an update for my situation. Several months ago I decided that I wanted to focus on more discretionary trading and stop working on developing automated strategies. I have 3 mechanical strategies, 2 completely automated with Ninja. I put one on hold because it is in drawdown but it's positive over the past several years with no optimization so I'm confident it'll be profitable once we get out of this trading range.

The other automated one still runs every day and is profitable.

The 3rd which is mechanical but not automated.. I've started using some discretion with it and so far I think the results are better but it's too soon to tell.

For my discretionary trading, I think I've finally found something. This is my second profitable week. I know I need to do it more but so far so good. This time I wrote out rules and reviewed not only the trades I took but the "perfect" trades and updated the rules as necessary. Now I'm no longer finding it necessary to update them and when I check my performance I see that the trades I lost money on were often not exactly by the rules. So I'm working on my discipline. Gotta have faith in the rules. Since I haven't automated it I can't backtest it but I think that may be a good thing..

Backtesting TradeStation vs Ninja

Does anyone know if the backtesting in TradeStation is significantly better then the Strategy Analyzer in Ninja.. Its just so much of a pain, evertime I make a minor change to my strategy,, its back to the manual testing with the daily recorded files..
Seems like all the "pros" post their results in TradeStation format,, including Futures Truth.

I have both and both have their advantages and disadvantages. I couldn't really say one was better than the other. I'm much more experienced with Ninjatrader (almost 1 year) than Tradestation (1 month).

Overall I think it comes down to how you want to code. For really complicated things I prefer C# hence Ninja. But I'm slowly coming to realize that simple is better and no need for complicated strategies. With Tradestation I can code an indicator in 2 lines of code. That's amazing. Strategies are similar.

I rarely run the optimizer any more for either platform. I am getting more into discretionary trading but I like to make strategies for each indicator I use to prove it works and then incorporate it into my trading.

Hey, enclosed is the code for the analyzer I posted earlier.. This was a composite of freeware on this site and just a few twists. The actual day to day testing turned out good also.

Hopefully some of you will test , will keep the "group" updated.. I tested it with daily recording but only had 2 recent contracts..
The range on the chart 7500v seems to be the grail, (Kwikpop) and most of the time, trades the same as Kwikpop does..,, Only worked with the ES, so don't ask me if it will work on "rice" futures!!!
Seemed like the only change lately is to let it trade to 12:00 EST rather the 11:30...

No no,, I have nothing to do with Kwikpop but only go into their free-room.. I have a real problem with leasing the blackbox Kwikpop system, if they go out of business, what have I learned, to interpret something that wont be there?? sounds like a losing trade to me!
Kwikpop says they also can supply some code that has some return values.. Course for $1k I have to be convinced that their indicators actually return something useful and profitable , I am tempted.

This is meant to be a totally automated system, turn it on and leave it, isn't that what computers are about???

You also might want to put, on your chart, the two indicators, remember Blue dots and /or bars is what causes this to trade.

This code is not quite clean and has some unused variables,, so I'f you come across,, whats this do?, nothing.. probably true.

Takes long and shorts,, real time took a long today June 29 at 10:09, zen data..
It doesn't trade every day.. and at the most 2-3 times. Be sure to check the trade time and change if necessary to trade 09:35 to 11:30 EST.. What data source you using?

Seems this is just an advertisment for your web page.. So where do you get your "facts",,, have some sort of measurable poll of a significant number of traders or just what you heard or you read ???(i'd bet 99% that you did not do your own research (backtest) for your "facts")

Doesn't having an autotrader take care of at least two of these issues,, executions, and discipline?
