LOL. If you're asking that question, does that mean you are?

It's just such a shock (for someone new to this) seeing how much market dynamics have changed over the last month... all the scenarios I tested and prepared for, which seemed so common from last September to March are now pointless. Instead of +/-10% days, it's +/-1% days...

Last options cycle I ended up about +4%. This options cycle (ending June 19th) had some early warning signs, but things are looking up... I'd guesstimate this cycle will end up somewhere between -3% to +6%.

I've been working on a lot of new stuff. Most of which I am not ready to share just yet, but I've put some stuff down on my blog here and there.

I feel like I'm in a better position than I have been in a while with some of the new tools.

I've actually hardly traded during all of May. Because I was recognizing that some of my prior setups were not working very well, and started down a new path to make new setups or improve the old ones.

If you read my blog you'll also know I have temporarily abandoned all automated strategies and have gone back to my "roots" and am trading discretionary only, using my programming skills to improve my toolset and not automate my trading.

I would be frustrated too if I had spent 15 years trying to grok technical analysis with no success, but just because you don't get it doesn't mean that it does not work.

Also, Sequential Monte Carlo (aka Particle Filtering) is one of the most powerful estimation techniques for nonlinear systems. Given enough samples, Monte Carlo will solve anything for you

Of course, having the solution will not do you much good if you don't know what to do with it. Just like having the right tools will not do you any good if you don't know how to use them (ie using Monte Carlo or any other technique to curve fit your poorly designed strategy).

Were you successful (profitable) during your 15 years?

Are you saying TA doesn't work because you were unsuccessful at it and therefore assume it cannot work, or because you were more successful with another method such as fundamental analysis? Your position is most interesting and I'd like to hear a bit more about how you arrived at this conclusion.

Forget the system. I've been trading for +20 years, and every holly grail system that I've tested fail. I am over that, trading is a tough business, but it beats any other business or holding a job. Elliot Wave is the only thing that seem to be working ok for me so far, and I've been sticking with it for over 10 years.

Back Testing fun

Enclosed is a "backtest", being somewhat new at verifying wether a strategy is worth persuing, anyone have any comments?? I'd be glad to send you my code if you would share your testing results with me. I only have a limited amount of recorded realtime data to forward test.

one thing i will say is that the backtest feature in Ninja Trader can give a false picture of actual results... doing a market replay sim will definitly give you a much better idea

I just started creating scripts (and having fun with backtesting) and when I read this post I have my work cut out for me.

About every six months or so, you will have to review your strategy for efficiency to adapt to current market conditions. There will be a good number of persons making money system trading. Just that sharing a really good system for free..... Kills it when a large number of contracts are traded under it. Besides post a really good result snapshot and every body wants to know more.
