    pointvalue currency

    Hi,

Just a quick question, which is probably obvious...

...but what currency is PointValue returned in?

    a) the base currency of the Instrument eg. EURJPY would return a value in JPY; or
    b) the base currency of the account eg. I have an account in USD, hence it returns the point value of EURJPY in USD

If a) is correct, then is there a method to convert the pointvalue to the base currency of our account, in order to provide a consistent reference point for losses in multi-currency strategies?

If a) is correct, then I'm confused about the pointvalue returned for a backtest for EURJPY. It returns a value of 1000 for a USD $100,000 historical account; if it was in JPY, wouldn't this have been 1000/(USDJPY currency rate) ?

    cheers,
    sysimp

I believe (a), but I'm not 100% sure. I suggest clarifying with your broker.

    - Unfortunately NT does not support multi-currencies calcs for backtesting stats
    - I'm not aware of any way to manually cross-calculate multi-currency values

      pointvalue - 2

      Dierk,

I am testing using ninja's free Gain account but don't have a live account yet, so that will be hard.

Ninja is requesting this data from the gain api; so what currency does GAIN return the data in?

      cheers,

NT acts like a radio receiver and only presents you the data received from GAIN. Please contact GAIN on interpretation of their data.

Further on this, consider the values returned by .PointValue for say, the ES (which is in USD) and the FESX (which is in Euros).

We have 50 for the ES and 10 for the FESX. But those values of 50 and 10 are not comparable because they are in different currencies. This also affects calculations like GetProfit() in currency.

Is there any way inside a strategy to determine the underlying currency of an instrument?
Any way to know the relative value?

Otherwise, the values of 50 and 10 might as well be bongobux.

saltminer, unfortunately not - PointValue is tied to the currency the instrument is setup with in the Instrument Manager.
