New to Ninjatrader and Algo trading

Hello and as the topic title reads, I'm new to the Ninjatrader platform and algo trading. Currently I use Tradovate to trade futures and I would like to automate my strategy so I can algo trade. But after some research I would need to purchase API key to make this happen. I decided to look at Ninjatrader and their algo capabilities. I know I can use the strategy builder to make an algo but my strategy will need to be written since the strategy builder doesn't have everything I need. My question is, do I need to also purchase an API key to run a bot on Ninjatrader? Hopefully, I asked the question correctly. Thank you and sorry for such a noob question.

Whether you plan to use the API or not for your strategy, there is no need to purchase an API key. You may find information regarding the NinjaTrader API, which is limited, here:

It is vanishingly unlikely that you need the NinjaTrader API. You will most likely be writing your strategy in NinjaScript and that is built in.
