Is there a call that can be used to query whether shares of a stock are available for shorting from the broker?

I know the TDAmeritrade API supports it, so the question is.... does Ninjatrader support that part of the API?

How are people currently implementing short strategies on NT? Just place the order, and see if it's rejected or not?

For the most part people know what instrument they are trading on and they know if the instrument is shortable beforehand so it is not an issue. People trading futures and forex also never have any issues with shorting because there is generally no rule.
