I know MACD is a lagging indicator. In NinjaTrader 8 I saw the MACD line is updated once a candle is finished. This might be okay for a lower time frame. However, if I have a 4-hour or Daily chart, a lot can happen within one candle. For example, if one of my stop loss criteria is MACD cross-over, then in some cases where the market makes abrupt huge turns, the MACD doesn't get updated until the candle is completed. Once the candle is completed, we can see a huge cross-over gap in the MACD lines with sudden direction change, and the stop-loss will only trigger at that point which is going to be a large loss.
Is there a way to keep track of the line cross-overs? Instead of updating the lines once the candle is completed, can we track the change in MACD lines with the price action?
