Is it possible to automatically have a strategy send an Instant Message via Yahoo IM or one of the other IM services when the strategy places an order?

Yes, this can be done because Ninja can send email.

So here is what you would need to do (this is not for everyone, but it can be done and Ninja or someone might consider offering this as a service)

Here is how it works. You setup an open fire server. You install the email listener. You also then install the gateways you want to talk to:
MSN, Yahoo, Jabber, etc.

Then setup an IMAP account that you want to serve as your IM gateway. Call it [email protected] and then set ninja to email that account.

When an email arrives with the subject "trade alert" or whatever you set it to, then it will forward to the list of IM clients/users you have configured.

So now you can alert yourself or a group of people via an email to this address after you setup as per my outline above.

Ninja should actually consider this as a service, it would be a great marketing tool for them as they could throw "powered by Ninja" or something at the bottom with a link to download the trading software ;-)
