Im backtesting on a CFD product and struggling to understand the value of the default quantity section. Initially assumed a value of 1 represented 1 CFD. This resulted in taking miniscule trades and was therefore increased to 100, which still resulted in trades taking place with peppercorn values. What's the deal here?

Hello demo166130,
Thanks for your post.
The DefaultQuantity property simply sets the number of contracts or shares to enter a position with.
What version of NT8 are you using?
What specific instrument are you testing?
What quantity are your orders being submitted for? What are these specific 'peppercorn' values?Josh G.NinjaTrader Customer Service

Using NT7, think I understand better now how the values work. The low values being entered were taking v.mall positions so the price moves were creating tiny profits/losses per trade.
Is there a way to baktest using a fixed percentage of account value in order to universalise the entries across a various instruments?

On a side issue loosely related. A comission value of 0.1 for CFD's is fairly accurate? Obviously, you can't give me exact values because it varies from broker to broker and instrument to instrument, but doesn this sound somewhat realistic?

demo166130,
What sounds realistic for specific commission values is beyond my expertise. As you noted, it would likely be best to research rates by specific broker. I will leave this post open for anyone else that may have more insight on commission values.Josh G.NinjaTrader Customer Service
