charts stop updating on MB connection

    Hi,

I have a live account with MB and my charts occasionally stop updating. For example right now I'm sitting on a EURUSD chart that shows me the latest price of 1.4724 (from 06:20) while the MB Trading Navigator window is showing 1.4715 (from 06:45 - current time)?

Any ideas what could be causing this?

    Thanks.

Check your chart's start and end session times. Make sure the connection is active in NinjaTrader. Check for any errors in the Control Center.

      Can't I run them 24 x 5?

I've checked them and session begins (local time) and session ends (locat time are set to "12:00 AM".

Where can I check the log from my previous session? (I've had to restart to get the charts updating again)

I'm not sure what you mean by 24x5.

I was going to say 24 x 7, ie. all the time but them corrected myself and made it 24 x 5 because the FX market is not open on the weekends.

Just do session start at 12:00AM and session end at 12:00AM for it to entail all times of the day.

Both values are set to 12:00AM.

Then you should have no problem provided your data link to MB was still active.

It was ... that's why I attached the screen shot ... showing an active MB navigator window and stale charts.

                    salt,

Check your log tab. Does it have a disconnect / reconnect between the time your chart stopped updating and now? MBT / NT doesn't seem to always handle a reconnection properly; sometimes the charts stop updating. If you format the data series and select the last date as today it should begin to update again.

To keep from losing your data during this problem I recommend having a Market Analyzer open with an indicator applied to whichever symbols you have in there.

This has been my experience with them as well.

Hi MrLogik, I've been trying out NT as a platform for automating a couple of strategies that I have lying around for FX using MB. By the sounds of your comments, it appears that this may not necessarily be a stable platform to be able to do this.

In your opinion is combination of NT & MB suitable for automated trading purposes?

                      Thanks, Salty.

                        Salty,

The only time this is an issue for me is at midnight when the servers reset and NT / MBT reconnecting at this time. Other than I do not currently have any problems with the charts failing to refresh during normal hours.

I did have problems with older versions of MBT Navigator, NT, and .NET.
Make sure you have the latest MBT Navigator, NT, and critical updates for .NET 2.5 (via windows updates). Do not install any updates for .NET 3.5.

I am fully automated without any problems with MBT and NT; I would recommend it as a viable platform / broker pair.

I've tried your suggestion above, but have not found a way to apply an indicator for the instruments in the Market Analyzer window. Did you mean to have a chart open for each instrument and an indicator in the chart?

                            Hey,

This is a copy / paste of an email I sent to a group of friends using NT. Please follow the instructions and import the indicator attached.

let me know how it works too please.

We go to the Instrument Manager and add a list called "Forex."
Next we change the type drop-down to currency add all currency pairs (or the pairs of interest, since your adding computations for your computer to do) to that list (select a pair, click the left arrow down at the bottom).
After we have that list populated close the Instrument Manager, then go to File->New->Market Analyzer.
Now right click the analyzer, select add instrument list, and select our newly created "Forex" list.
You should see all of your pairs now in the Market Analyzer (MA).
Now, for NT to store data for us we have to have an indicator in here as well. I have attached a spread indicator which is probably the least CPU intensive you can have on there. To add an indicator, right click the MA-->columns. On the left side select Indicator and click New. Now on the right side go to "Indicator" and drop down to "SpreadDisplay." Then up top under Data Series change the Type to "Tick", and the value to "1". This will allow you to save Tick Data, and not just minute data; this is essential.

I have attached the Display Spread indicator.

Let me know how it works out and if you need any help.

                              Hi MrLogik,

I've imported your indicator that you have attached to the post and it compiles fine. I can even add it to a chart without any problems and it shows the spread graphically. However there appears no way to attach it as an additional column like you suggested above in the Market Analyser window. Any clues on how I can get it to appear in the list of available "columns" in the MA window?

                              Thanks, Salty.
