    hangs~freezes~crashes

    on this forum and others there's the repeated question about NT
    freezing or hanging, which I also experience, with the addition
    today of a 'crash'
    NT hung at approximately 11:42am pst, and while attempting to
    close it the 'end program' msg appeared and NT was closed

    seems to me this hanging~freezing is an NT problem, or is this
    an inherrent problem with all charting/order entry programs ?

    what concerns me aside from not being able to manipulate the
    program, is open orders/trades

    tho using demo, when NT shut down I had an open trade
    fortunately the trade was the right one, the market moved in
    my direction, and while the price had bottomed and was going
    up, by the time NT was restarted and the chart was displaying
    I was still able to close the es trade with a $270 profit

    but what happens when I'm trading real money ?
    will NinjaTrader LLC reimburse me were the trade a $270 loss ?

    There are so many variables related to why this could happen -

    - 3rd party indicators on charts that consume a lot of resources (outside of NT's control)
    - Volume at exchanges are increasing --> Volatile times will cause volume spikes
    - Hardware issues
    - ISP issues

      so, leaving aside the isp, hardware, addons and 'performance tips'

      you're saying NinjaTrader can't handle a 'busy' data stream ?

        NinjaTrader itself can handle busy data streams. What usually is the source of problems is poorly designed indicators or strategies that cannot. For instance, if an indicator decided it needed to recalculate values from the beginning or redraw something at every tick you are bound to run into problems due to the poor design structure.

          I have only 1 chart open, Seconds at default, no auto trading, indicators
          are only those pre-installed plus a couple from the Indicators download pg

            ... which could be the problem. I suggest starting with a reduced setup to understand which custom indicators cause the problems.

              this particular freeze/hanging occurs at the time of order entry
              as reported by Brian1
              it has nothing to do with indicator code

              I had no problems with v 6.5.1000.3

                What exactly do you mean by freezing?
                a) order got stuck in PendingSubmit OR
                b) NT was not responsive at all, meaning you could e.g. not use the menu system

                  an order is entered and the program hangs/freezes
                  then eventually goes to 'end program' msg and closes

                  v3 didn't in the time I was using it have any problems
                  only since 'upgrading' to v4 has the problem occurred
                  I'm not much for upgrades and only did so because of the
                  'Fixed: Zen-Fire adapter - Order changes, submission or
                  cancellations could get stuck in a pending state'
                  but it seems that in correcting one problem - which I hadn't
                  experienced - another has been created or made worse
                  and if they weren't before
                  orders are now 'getting stuck in a pending state' which is
                  freezing/hanging/crashing the program

                      Tradr is right on point. Since I downloaded v4 I have had the same freeze/hang problem. I cannot understand why you Ninja person could not understand "freeze/hang" when the statement made perfect sense to me. I will try to send the record to support as requested.

                        a) did you trade on Zen?
                        b) when exactly did the "freeze" happen? As you placed a trade? Else?
                        c) did you trade on sim account or broker live account?
                        d) did only the order got stuck OR was NT not responsive at all meaning you could not operate e.g. the menu system?

                          Today I started to place a stop on CL 08-08 (oil) at 1326C and then in the conformation window clicked "No" but the chart hung/did not respond for at least 2 min. When the chart did refresh there were about 10 15range bars printed, 8 bars from 1327 to 1328.

                          Do not remember because I was in a state of confussion As this had not happened until installing v4.

                          I still have orders display on the chart from a couple of days ago when I finally had to get rough and close with task manager. Position tab shows no positions. Orders tab shows pending in orange. cancel X does nothing


                          Will send another .zip load of files to support today from help

                              yes, I'm using NT on a Celeron 500 with 300+mb ram and W2K and
                              also have a second rt charting program displaying 2 es charts, but
                              uninstalled v4 and reinstalled v3 last night and made 22 demo/sim
                              trades today without any problems . . .


                              who'll it be, Germany or Spain ?
