    NT crashes on backfill problems

Have all these old problems with NT again:

Loading backfill suddenly stops, I try to abort loading, then NT would show the aborting pop-up and freeze. IB backfill is ok, so this is not the reason, I checked it.

After restart of NT, everything works, but when I try to change instruments on the charts, the charts remain empty and NT freezes again.

I already reinstalled NT several times, but the problems reappear. I have these problems after updating to NT 6.5.1000.3, but I think this is mere conincidence, as I have watched this strange behaviour before.

I am a bit lost, because NT worked well for a couple of weeks.

Please mail me traces and logs to "dierk AT ninjatrader DOT com" and timestamps on when you experienced crashes.

Interference of backfill loading likely to cause problem

Charts working again after complete reinstallation. Had to rebuild charts. The reason for the strange behaviour is probably the setup for the workspace:

I have 3 linked charts (timeframes 2min, 10min, 60 min). The 2 min chart is set to 30 days, the other two charts are set to 90 days (need 65 days to calculate monthly Pivots from intraday data, but want to have a longer lookback period for hourly charts...).

When selecting a new instrument, I did this on the 2 min chart (backfill 30 days). NT would then backfill the 2 min chart, then afterwards discover that the other charts need 90 days and restart loading the same instrument again. And this was the point where the process stopped and the charts remained empty.

To solve the problem, I only needed to select the instrument on the chart with the longest lookback period. NT will then load the data and for the linked charts the data will be used and no second loading process for the same instrument will cause a freeze.

I think that my former problems were similar, just that I had used four linked charts - the 3 ones described above and a daily one. The loading of intraday and daily data on linked charts caused a similar NT freeze, as the backfill loading of intraday and daily data interfered somehow. I now disconnect daily and intraday charts to avoid this problem. Also I am not using the dailybars method, because this involves loading of daily and intraday data at the same time.

Maybe you have an idea what causes this behaviour. Remember I use IB data supply. Thank you for your help.

Only use one lookback period for intraday charts

Backfill with IB works, as long as all intraday charts for a given instrument have the same lookback period - I am now using 65 days for all charts. In this case there will be only one loading process per instrument and no interference between two of them causing a freeze of NT.

This solves the problem for me.
