Whose server/computer holds trades?

I was recently trading in simulation. I had a live bracket trade going when I shut down the computer thinking I would come back later to see if I had achieved a profit or loss. When I came back, the trade was going on even though I should have been stopped out. I thought that NinjaTrader held its trades in its own server. It that true only in real trading? Or am I mistaken about how this works. (Mind you, if this had been a live trade I would have kept my screens up to watch the outcome. But I'd like to know I'm covered if there was an interruption in internet, etc.) Thanks for the help.

Thank you for your post.

Orders in the Sim101 account are held on the local PC and are not sent to an external server. Due to this, NinjaTrader would need to remain running and connected to a market data source in order for orders to execute. Without a live data source the order will remain in place as the simulation engine would be unaware that the order should execute.

This, of course, would not be the case in live trading as the order exists outside of NinjaTrader.
