how to test for existing order

I tried reading through threads and querying the manual but can't find the simple answer here.
How do I test to see if I have a position active. I have a trailstop created by:
SetTrailStop("", CalculationMode.Ticks, 8, false);

It is firing like it should, but then I don't know how to capture this fact so I can reinitialize and enter into a new trade.

I'm sure there is an easy answer to this, I just can't find it.
