    Difference between orderaction.sell and orderaction.sellshort

i am trying to understand the the difference between each of the orderAction parameters.

please correct me if i am wrong.

    OrderAction.Buy

Straightforward, used to go long when flat.

    OrderAction.BuyToCover

Straightforward, used to cover a previous short trade.

    OrderAction.Sell

Straightforward, used to initiate a Short trade when flat.

    OrderAction.SellShort

now, this is the one that's confusing me. is this used to close a previous long position or is it used to initiate a new short trade ?

What is the special reason for the existence of this SellShort, when the same functionality of closing a long trade and opening a short trade can be achieved using orderaction.sell alone? please clarify.

    Hello karthik007,

OrderAction.Sell is an exit trade that exits a Long position.

OrderAction.SellShort is an entry order that enters a Short position.
