    Setting up email

I have a gmail account and am trying to set up mail. Tools/Options/ Misc.

    Server: smtp.gmail.com
    Port: 587
    User: my email address
password: password of my email account

mail alert messages to: my email account

When I send a test using the 587 unsecured port I get the message:
Failed to send mail: You must set up your email account settings
When I use the 465 SSL I get the same message
Using Ninja'a default returns the same message.

    Thanks for your help.

Hi Mike, thanks for your post.

Here is the required configuration for Gmail account access in NinjaTrader:

    Server: smtp.gmail.com
    Port: 587
    SSL: Enabled
User: "YourUserName" (ensure this does NOT contain the "@gmail.com"
    Password" "YourPassword"

It looks like you had this set up correctly. Make sure the SSL checkbox has been checked, though.

Is your Gmail account enabled for two-step verification? This often necessitates the need for an app-specific password which you can create in your Google account settings, or disabling two-step verification. You also will need to enable POP3 on your Gmail account. See the following article on enabling POP on your Gmail account:

Get started with POP and IMAP

    Looking forward to your reply.

I am getting the same error and following the instructions given. Could there be something else I am missing?

Hi brucelevy, thanks for your reply.

Is your Gmail account configured for two step authentication? If so, did you put an application specific password in the password field in NinjaTrader?

If two step authentication is not enabled, is the setting to allow less secure apps enabled on your Gmail account?

Are you omitting the '@gmail.com' on the username field?

It seems that I had to press ok to save, go back into the settings and then retry the test.

            thanks
