Unfortunately, when you restart the strategy it will cancel the orders.

Regardless of selection, NinjaTrader will always cancel existing orders when a strategy is restarted?

That's the exact opposite of what was stated before, and also the exact opposite of what I want to happen.

The idea is to let a position play out naturally, not leave a position open and unprotected.

It does appear that NT "remembers" open positions and orders, even displaying existing orders as "working" when the software is restarted. Presumably leaving a strategy deactivated will allow the position (and associated orders) to continue to exist. So existing positions can be monitored, but this does not allow for certain things that the strategy should be doing - such as trailing stops with an indicator, or exiting and immediately reversing a position at 3 a.m. without human intervention.

I don't think that this request is unreasonable; it seems like a pretty straightforward concept, and I can't possibly be the only trader that would want his strategies to continue with very little interruption after a software restart.

You are correct when using 'Wait until flat before executing live', however if you use 'Immediately submit live working historical orders' any active orders on the account previously generated by the strategy that does not match an active strategy order will be cancelled rather than any active orders previously generated by the strategy on your account being cancelled.
