Best Way to Test Strategy

I just want to test a strategy using either real or made up data.

I tried testing it by connect it to Interactive Brokers paper trading account but the buys and sells don't seem to be working.

Is there a way that I can test if my signals and trades work with either using my live IB account or my paper trading account?

Do I use market play feature or the simulator?

How are you trying to backtest the strategy; from a chart, strategy analyzer, market replay?
What instrument (and expiry if applicable) have you selected?
(For a chart) what interval is selected?
Do you receive an error on screen? Are there errors on the Log tab of the Control Center? If so, what do these errors report?
Are you able to backtest the SampleMACrossover strategy?

I'm trying to backtest from the chart.

What instrument (and expiry if applicable) have you selected?

Stocks: IBM, POWR, CVTI, WFC

(For a chart) what interval is selected?

30 minute interval

Do you receive an error on screen? Are there errors on the Log tab of the Control Center? If so, what do these errors report?
Are you able to backtest the SampleMACrossover strategy?

There are no errors on the screen nor log tab. The SampleMA strategy did not work using a number of stocks.

What account is selected for your strategy on the chart? Is it the Sim101 account? And if so, are you trying to test the strategy executions to your live or paper account with Interactive Brokers?

I believe you are attempting to have the strategy trade to the Interactive Brokers accounts. And if this is true please advise the following:
Do you see 30 Minute data on the charts for the select stocks?
If you go to the Control Center > File menu, is the Global Simulation Mode option enabled? Can you uncheck this option?

Yes I would like to both test my strategy with the live paper account with Interactive Brokers. I would also like to run simulations that are not live to see if the trades execute as programmed if possible.

Let me try what you suggested and let's hope it works when the market opens again.
