IB Connection Type

Is current NT connection made through ActiveX and .net wrapper or the sockets? I'm asking because those two seem to be combined item in TWS API setup).

Another question: I thought NT supports FIX protocol. Why not to connect through FIX and forget slow TWS Java application with handling its popups for good? Why can't NT utilize its own and/or use Onix FIX or even free QuickFix engine for IB connection?

I'm sorry I didn't understand the answer,

1. Does NT supports FIX already
2. or it is planned for version 7.0?
3. Can one write FIX adapter for IB to plug into NT? Maybe there is already work done/in progress?
