charts not preserved in a closed workspace?

when I open a previously saved workspace, charts created in that work space do not appear?

what can I do to avoid losing the charts upon which are my created lines, arrows and other drawing objects?. .

    Hello joemiller,

Could it be the chart are minimized? Do you see the charts in the Windows task bar. If so, please restore the charts from there.

Could the following have happened? Upon closing down the software you closed the charts and other windows part of workspace. Subsequently when prompted to save your workspace, you clicked Yes or Yes to all. This caused your workspace to save without the charts and other windows, since they were closed.

This can happen if you shut down NinjaTrader via the Windows task bar. If you right click NinjaTrader in the Windows task bar and select Close, it will close all charts and other windows first and subsequently you will be prompted to save your workspaces. If you now click Yes, it will be saved without the charts and other windows.

You can restore your workspace if you have a backup file that contains your workspace saved with your charts and other windows. Please go to Control Center-->File-->Utilities-->Restore to restore any backup files you may have.

If not, unfortunately you will need to rebuild the workspace.

is the windows task bar the bar at the bottom of the screen?

      thanks Jason,

is the windows task bar the bar at the bottom of the screen?

thanks for describing all those possibilities. I will check it all out.

seems unnecessarily complicated ... but it is what it is.

Yes, the Windows task bar is the bar at the bottom of the screen.

          shut down procedure?

''This can happen if you shut down NinjaTrader via the Windows task bar. If you right click NinjaTrader in the Windows task bar and select Close, it will close all charts and other windows first and subsequently you will be prompted to save your workspaces. so what procedure should be followed when shutting down?
click on the X in the upper right corner and then save the workspace?, should I do it via the control center window? etc, etc. chart saving procedure is definitely not a user friendly design...pass it on to the system programmers.

Yes, you can click the X in the upper right corner of the Control Center. You can also go to Control Center-->File-->Exit.

              step 1 is then
click the X in the upper right corner of the Control Center.
              or go to Control Center-->File-->Exit.

what then ... when prompted do I then respond save work space or not?

ok, I ''can'' then save the charts. but MUST I EXPLICITLY SAVE CHARTS or otherwise they will be lost?

I'm beating this to death because I have wasted a lot of time on the issue and I want to get it right.

No, you just need to make sure no charts have been closed before you save the workspace.

You save charts part of a workspace upon saving the workspace.

so if a chart is not explicitly closed and ninja is not closed via the windows task bar then the chart will never be lost.

                      is that correct?

Correct - providing your save your workspace when you exit NinjaTrader. If this is a newly created chart and you would not save the workspace, it will be lost as well.

                          how about this rule set?

1 never explicitly close a chart [unless it is no longer needed].

2 never close ninja via the windows task bar.

3 always explicitly save the workspace when prompted.

then the chart will never be lost.

Having done this myself yesterday & having had the same result I can only ask - why hasn't this obvious bug been addressed? This does not happen with other windows programs using multi window environments so it certainly isn't impossible.
