changing broker

I have a life long licenses do i need to contact any one to change brokers or just make the switch?

I know when I bought my licenses I had to pick whom I was using ninja trader for. How ever, I don't see why when I settle on a new broker I cant just make the swap. I am changing because I don't like the responsiveness and crashing of MBT. They are a nice broker but sadly not for me.
