    Restaring PC

    Hello,

This might have been covered other times but I couldn't fiond an answer.

I have several positions opened and butch of contingent orders placed.

I have installed Windows updates and now I need to restart my computer.

What's the correct procedure to restore NT exactly like it is now (with all my orders and positions, no sync issues...etc)?

    Thanks.

    Hello TexFly,

If these orders are placed manually, you should not have to do anything as NinjaTrader will get all of your positions from your broker.

Otherwise, if this is an Automated Strategy your strategies will be disabled but your orders still should be active depending on what state they were in when NinjaTrader was shutdown.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the reply. The orders have been placed by an active strategy. The buying orders (which were executed) and the closing orders (contingents upon certain conditions) that are still active. Now I need to restart the PC...what's the suggested sequence so my NT environment can be resumed exactly the way it is now?

        Hello TexFly,

NinjaTrader can try and resume your strategies when you restart them.

To do this, you will need to enable the following option:
        • Click Tools -> Options... -> select the Strategies tab -> select the NinjaScript sub-tab
        • Select the radio button option Immediately submit live working historical orders
        • Click OK

Then be sure to save your workspace when you shutdown NinjaTrader.

Below is a link to the help guide on Syncing Account Positions. Please see the section 'Immediately submit live working historical orders, Sync account position = true'

          What a mess.

I followed the instructions and as soon as NT restarted it cancelled all the orders!

It looks like I have to cancel and recreate all my strategies selecting "Sync account=TRUE". Usually I keep this "FALSE" when I start the strategies for the first time to avoid unwanted orders...

Is this the best NT can do?

How do you guys do when a restart is needed?

          Thanks for the help.

            Hello TexFly,

When you restarted NinjaTrader, were your strategies set with the Sync account position to true or false?

Also, what is currently checked with the Order handling section of the NinjaScript tab?
            • Tools -> Options... -> select the Strategies tab -> select the NinjaScript sub-tab
            • Are Cancel entry orders... or Cancel exit orders... checked?

Sometimes it depends on the script itself. Is this script using the managed or un-managed approach?

Hi: I am sure it just me and maybe a few others but I read through the manual and I still find myself confused here. I need to reboot my server. i am currently in positions initiated by the strategy. Normally I want to wait until the strategy is flat before executing an order, however, in this case I don't want to wait until flat but i also dont want it to submit historical orders ONLY new entries or exits - so what do i set to what in order for that to happen?- thx

                Hello,

If the strategy has already been started without the 'Immediately submit live working historical orders', even if this is changed NinjaTrader will not be able to match the open orders to the strategy.

We had to do a little testing with this on our end as we are not finding this written in the documentation.

I recommend that you wait until the strategy can be disabled and removed. Then change to the 'Immediately submit live working orders' option and restart your strategy.

Moving forward in the future, you will be able to restart and have NinjaTrader resume your strategy as long as the strategy is initially started with the 'Immediately submit live working historical orders option to true'.

Any historical filled orders will modify the strategies position but will not be submitted to the broker. Any historical working orders will be submitted to the broker. (This would be any limit, stop, or stop limit orders)

You can then place manual orders to sync your account position to the position of the strategy.

                    Hello hifreq,

Would you like me to submit a feature request to allow strategies that are not started with Immediately submit live working historical orders to still have the orders be sync-able and matched if the strategy is restarted with Immediately submit live working historical orders?

It's not just you Man, very confusing setup indeed. I think NT should have a clean way to resume operations after a restart...

                        Hi hifreq and TexFly,

I have submitted a feature request to still allow these orders in strategies to be sync-able even if they are not initially started with Immediately submit live working historical orders.

Thank you for your suggestions to improve NinjaTrader.
