Problem connecting to IB

I can connect to IB's TWS without starting TN. But when I try to connect to TWS from NT I get problems. The login panel opens up, then I get asked for the security letters/numbers; I am then briefly connected to TWS but after a few seconds TWS disappears and I get asked to login again. In the bottom left hand corner of the Control Center it says Connected - Kinetick and ConnectING - IB, but it never says ConnectED - IB. After going around in a loop a few times I am timed out.

I don't know if it is relevant but my IB account details do not appear in the Accounts tab (only SIM101), but when I look at File/Connect IB is on the list.

I want to trade live but can't as NT and TWS won't talk to each other. I have followed the setup instructions to the letter.

Resovled by ensuring that the Advanced Order Management window was open within Traders Workstation.
