Problems with UK stocks in NinjaTrader

Hi all. I sent an e-mail to Ninja support earlier today, which I will now post below... Hoping this might be a quicker way of getting a response.

    Hi Guys,

I'm currently looking at using NT as my trading platform. I'm trying to get used to it as a platform before I purchase I license of you guys and go live.

I'm based in London, UK. I have an Interactive Brokers account that I'm using as my current data feed.

In Instrument Manager I have added Vodafone as a new master instrument (stock) in the database.
The parameters I have used are as follows,

    Symbol : VOD
    Type : Stock
    Currency : BritishPound
    Description : Vodafone
    Exchanges : Lse
Symbol Map (for Interactive Brokers) : VOD

    That's it.

Right now I seem to be having two problems.
Because the tick size in NT is set to 0.01 by default for stocks, and UK stocks are displayed in pence (not pounds), NT thinks a tick is 0.01 of a penny.
Hence when I show Vodafone in Super DOM I get the following....

    BID 159.70 (i.e. 159.70 pence)

    ASK 159.80 (i.e. 159.80 pence)

In the super DOM I get every price in between the bid and offer... i.e. 159.71, 159.72, 159.73 etc... Even though each of these prices displayed is not a valid price for Vodafone. In fact the tick size for Vodafone is 0.1 pence. Not 0.01 pence.

This is likely to be a common problem with all UK stocks.

Any idea how I can overcome this problem...???

In what may be related problem, if I try and create a New>Chart of the VOD symbol once it is set up, I get a blank chart back. But worse than that, all further charts I try and create of ANY instrument are blank from that point forwards. The creation of the VOD chart seem to corrupt all further charts.

Again, any thoughts on this problem...??

    Help appreciated.

Still struggling with this query... If anyone has experience of trading UK stocks on NT, could they pass on exactly how they got them working.

      Many Thanks

        Hi

Is there anyone using interactive brokers with NT and has solved the issue of prices being in pence rather than pounds?

        Thanks

          Hello Brad,

When test UK stocks on my end, they reports prices in pounds. See screenshot as example.

What TWS version do you have installed?

            Hi Jason,

Thanks for your response but VOD in that case is showing in pence (ie it is 2.01 GBP). You can confirm this by looking at the contract info detail in TWS.

The version I'm using is 64 bit 7.0.1000.12.

I tried using what was suggested in a previous post using |100 in the trade instruments section but had no luck.

            Any suggestions?

            Cheers

            Brad

              Hello bramcc,

              Thanks for your reply.

It is not possible to adjust the decimal of the quote from Interactive Brokers. NinjaTrader would only be able to display the quote in the pence format the Interactive Brokers provides. Using the |100 function would not make a difference

                Thanks Brandon

I guess my issue is that I think NT has a problem sending through orders to IB due to the pence/pounds problem. I can place an order in IB directly for say 4000 shares of a stock at 1100 pence but when I try to do the same from NT it says it exceeds my margin limit.

Has anyone else identified this issue?

                Thanks

                Brad

                  Hello bramcc,

                  Thanks for your reply.

I have tested orders to Interactive Brokers using a demo system and it is being received for the correct values with out issue.
Try to place an order from NinjaTrader once more and if it does not work please send your log and trace files for today to support[at]ninjatrader[dot]com so we can look into this further.
You will find the log file on your PC in the (My) Documents > NinjaTrader 7 > Log folder.
The log file will be named "log.20130906.txt"
You will find the trace file on your PC in the (My) Documents > NinjaTrader 7 > Trace folder.
The trace file will be named "trace.20130906.txt"
Once located send the files as attachments to your email and include what instrument was traded and at what time. Put ATTN Brandon in the message and include a link to this forum topic.
