    Middle mouse button - DOM

    Hello,

I was wondering if there is an alternative to using the middle mouse button to place Stop Limit orders on the DOM. Because the wheel rotates it is sometimes a bit tricky or unnerving to quickly click orders in using it, it would be nice if I could just right click, or program NT to use a different button instead of the wheel. Is there any option anywhere to change this, or is the only option to use the center mouse wheel to place the stop limits?

Alternatively, does anyone know where I can buy a mouse with a center button instead of a wheel?

    Hello LightWeight,

    Thank you for your post.

There is no alternative in the SuperDOM - a middle button is required in this window. Other windows like Chart Trader would not use the middle button however.

Have been using a Logitech mouse...it has an extra button just above the wheel that can be programmed to use as the middle button....works OK in the DOM to place stop limit orders.

        Hello Alfred,

Thank you for the follow up on this subject.

Here are instructions on how to set a custom order entry hot key:

You can set up a order entry hot key to enter a stop order on the SuperDOM.
To do this you will need to go to Tools > Hot Key Manager.
        • Once in the Hot Key Manager window:
        • select Order entry > right click and select "Add Custom Order".
        • Set the order and click OK.
        • Then go to Tools > Options > General tab > check the box for Use Order Entry Hot Keys"" and press OK when finished

          Hi Ryan,

I'm not able to right click on anything in the Hot Key Manager window....when I try to right click any of the menu items nothing happens.

          Regards,

          Andrew

            Hi Alfred,

Do you have a link to the particular model you're using?

Make sure you are right mouse clicking on the right hand side of the Hot Key Manager.

Ah okay, I was clicking on the actual words.

I see now how to set up the order for the hot key, but where do I actually select which button activates the order?

OKay I see, you just type it in next to the new order. It doesn't seem to like anything I put in though, I'm looking for a one-button hot key command/entry and it's rejecting everything I try putting in.

                    Hello LightWeight,

After creating your custom order you will need to left mouse click the custom order that appears at the bottom of the Order Entry field on the right hand side and then assign the hotkey. I have included a screenshot showing these settings:

So I have to select control, shift, or alt, in addition to a key, to set up the hot key? It can't simply be one key to press?

                        Hello LightWeight,

Most of the preexisting hot keys are mapped to a modified + another key.

With that being said, you can use the F1-F12 keys for a single key press although these F keys are already mapped to other functions in NinjaTrader.

You can use these F keys for your custom order although it will unmap the original function from this hotkey.

Yeah I guess it's not really a big deal just to hold control and then press something, I realize that now.

My last issue is simply that the price highlighted in the DOM seems to move back and forth between the bid and ask....so for example if I'm trying to quickly drop in a 2 tick bracket order with stop limits, and I want them both to be 2 ticks away from the price shown in yellow. It looks like the yellow price switches back and forth between the bid and ask constantly, so if I use a 2 tick offset in the hot key manager, one of them ends up being the right distance, but the other one ends up being 3 ticks away instead of 2 ticks. I assume the yellow highlighted price is the last, but I can't choose that as an option to bracket from, correct? Only the bid or ask?

                            Hello LightWeight,

Yes that is correct. Unfortunately there is not an option on the Custom Order for Current (or last) price.

If you are using a Dynamic SuperDOM window, you can use the HOLD button in the upper left hand corner to keep the price column from moving up and down while placing/modifying orders:

                              Hi Ryan,

I think I found a solution -- I can actually just program 4 keys, two for 1 tick offset and 2 for 2 tick offset, and then just choose them based on whether the last is currently the bid or ask price, that way the bracket still ends up being two ticks away (using the hotkey for 1 tick on one side, and 2 ticks on the other).

Thanks for all the help, I'm good to go now.

                              Regards,

                              Andrew
