Vix data from IB

I can pull up a chart of the vix with TWS, but when I try to download the data to NT it tells me I have no market data permissions. Usually if I don't have data permissionf for an instrument, I can't pull up a chart. Has anybody run in to this before? I have also downloaded the data from the CME website, but it is in the wrong format for NT. I would love to get this data into NT.

Thank you for your post.

Do you receive real time data within TWS when this Index is selected as opposed to delayed? If you only receive delayed data within TWS in order to plot data within NinjaTrader your IB account would need to be permissioned for real time data.

I am receiving the vix chart in real time.

For some reason the chart won't go back further than 12/26/12.

Is there any way to use the data from the CME? I tried to convert it unsuccessfully.

Are you now receiving data within NinjaTrader? If so is this data being fed by IB or are you using another data source that is displaying data from 12/26/2012?

Data can be imported into NinjaTrader if data is in the correct format and file type. I have provided a link below to our Help Guide that goes over Importing Data and the format required.

I was connected to IB and receiving historical data from them. I have been downloading data for the ES from IB going back several years without too many problems. Thanks for the link I will go over it.
