    Ameritrade data

Under download in historical data manager I was attempting to download minute data for SPY and furthest back I can go is 2/1/12. Is this the most I can hope for is there a way to download min data further back?

If not do you recommend any other way outside ameritrade to get min data further back that's free or cheap? Just looking to do backtesting.

    thanks

    Hello zachj,

    Thank you for your post.

It appears that this would represent the boundary of the data which TD Ameritrade provides NinjaTrader. Additional data is available from other providers however. I would recommend looking in to service with BarChart, eSignal, IQ Feed or Kinetick as any of these providers would offer SPY data extending further back.

I setup a login with Barchart, I read another post that says the username has to start with NT so I set up a gmail account starting with that. But I get a login failure. I tried to email barchart support for assistance with a username that would be compatible but it's been days and no response. Is there anything else I can do here?

        Hi zachj,

Any connection to data within NinjaTrader will be available directly with the provider.

For BarChart you would need to sign-up for a real-time data account, and when setting-up the account then BarChart would configure to work with NinjaTrader. BarChart would provide you with a username that starts with 'NT' based on your sign-up. For information on that please see:

In addition to that data other providers would offer historical and real-time data, and Kinetick is NinjaTrader's preferred market data provider, and for additional information please see: http://www.kinetick.com/features

I just went ahead and set up with Esignal. All the historical data I download from esignal, will that permanently be on my harddrive? Or would I have to continue to login through esignal to access that data?

            Hello,

After you have downloaded the data from the Historical Data Manager or loading it into the chart it will be on your PC.

Any live data would still need to come from eSignal or another data provider.

Just one more ?. When I'm downloading data from esignal will it overwrite the days/months of data already in there or will it just skip data already sitting in there and import just the new data?

              Update..
Guess I just answered my own question, tried downloading for one symbol and it ignores data in there and takes the time to overwrite it.
