Hello jlbishop,
You may use the Print() statements to output data inside of the Output window (under Tools) so taht you can verify values are what you expect and to see how your code is being processed.
For strategies you may add TraceOrders = true to your Initialize() method and you can then view valuable output related to strategy submitted orders through the Output window.
It may also help to add drawing objects to your chart for signal and condition confirmation.
