Change Tick Size for All Instruments

    Hi,

I just realized that I would like to change the tick size of all my instruments to .0001 instead of the .01 that seems to de the default in the instrument manager.

Upon researching this I've discovered that stocks are traded in .0001 units right?

Is there any way to change the unit other than editing all of the stocks one at a time? I see there is no tick size on the import stock symbol list. Is .01 the default tick size when instruments are created this way?

    Hello stockgoblin,

    Thanks for your post.

There is no setting on the Import Stock List to adjust the tick size and these would need to be manually adjusted for each instrument within the Instrument Manger.

      Happy New Year!!

Could you possibly pass this onto development to put a tick size on the import stock symbol list? Also, what happens when you import a stock from a list that is already in the instrument manager. Do any changes take place if the options are different in the import stock symbol list?

        Hello stockgoblin,

        Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your feedback and I will forward it to development.

When importing a stock that is already in the Instrument Manager no changes will be made to the instrument.

          HI,

Alright, I've got 6100 instruments and I want to change the ticksize to .0001. I only use about 4000 of these instrument on 40 or so workspaces. What is the best approach? Can I clear the instrument manager and then open the workspaces so that the instruments loaded are only the ones I use and then change the ticksizes. Will that work or there's always the alternative of slogging through the 6100 instruments individually. Any suggestions?

Do you have to delete user added instruments individually or how can I clear the instrument manager.

            Hello stockgoblin,

            Thanks for your reply.

The only way to quickly delete all the added instruments is to rename your data base.

Unfortunately the following items stored in the old database will also be lost – ATM Strategy templates, Session templates, Instrument Lists, and historical trade execution data

Please rename your database with the following steps :

Shutdown NinjaTrader and Go to the Start Menu
            Select My Documents--> NinjaTrader 7--> DB--> NinjaTrader.SDF.
Right click on NinjaTrader.SDF and select "Rename." *Name it "OLDNinjaTrader.SDF."
Then restart the software and NinjaTrader will create a fresh database file to use

Once you restart NinjaTrader it will load the default built in instruments

oh, I cleared the database but loading a workspace doesn't create the instruments in the instrument manager. Darn, guess I'll restore the backup and slop through the 6100. Darn. Thanks anyway.

Hey, do you think I could search and replace the .SDF file and substitute .0001 for .01 or is it encrypted or something?

                Hello Stockgoblin,

                Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately I do not know of a way that you would be able to open and edit the ninjatrader.sdf file.

Are you sure of that? I do not know of any stocks that are traded with a tick size of less than 1 cent. Currencies, sure; stocks?

                      Hello koganam,

                      Thanks for your post.
There are some items that would be available to trade at this tick size such as penny stocks.
you would need to check with your broker what tick size is supported for an instrument.

Ah. Of course. Little wonder: I never look at penny stocks. Too thinly traded for my purposes, I am afraid. Thanks for the information.
