Unfortunately historical data will be missed until next weekend during which it will be restored. The following instruments are affected:
      • currency futures (6A 03-13, 6E 03-13, etc)
      • DX 03-13
      • ZC 03-13
      • ZW 03-13
      Our apologies for the inconvience.

        Jason.

Not your fault BUT here is a message to the Board of NinjaTrader.

It is not like this is the first time this occurred. To the contrary it has been a recurring situation. There are some threads on this Support Forum which clearly stated that some guys in NT were looking into it. I recall asking at that time (probably two months ago) whether they are looking to fix it, or whether they are trying to find out the real underlying reason and fix that. I never got an answer. And that tells me a lot.

What you have to announce now is almost the same as saying that NinjaTrader is useless for the next week unless I keep it running 24hrs a day non-stop. Which I can't do because I rely on 3rd Party Vendor indicators that need to be updated every 24 hours and require exiting and re-starting NT.

The feeling I get is that someone in NT (at the decision level) is not taking this as serious as it should be taken. I tell you, these recurring gaps in the data, happening about every second week, coupled with the rollover fiasco now also already having happened twice and absolutely nothing effectively being done to remedy it for good, has the effect on me to look for another platform to use. That is a pity as I got used to NinjaTrader but the bottom line is that NinjaTrader is starting to be a risk on its own: I cannot trust NinjaTrader to perform as expected.

            Hello,

This is Brett following up for Jason.

First and foremost I want to apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced with missing historical data. Our development team is working on this issue to isolate what is going on and get it resolved. Furthermore I would like to take this opportunity to provide some information on how the CQG connection model works with NinjaTrader.

When you are connected to CQG with NinjaTrader you are getting live data directly from CQG and you are getting historical data from NinjaTrader historical data servers. These data servers are co-located in CQG’s data center recording directly from the live CQG data feed. CQG also has their own historical data servers that they comb for accuracy and has access to staff and tools that enable them to keep server data maintained. This is offered to clients of CQG that subscribe to a connection package that cost in excess of several hundred dollars per month. This fee is a barrier to entry for many traders, and in order to offer this connection technology at prices that are competitive a solution needed to be found. To make a long story short, NinjaTrader records the data as a courtesy service at no charge to NinjaTrader users. Although this data is recorded from live CQG data on a collocated server in CQG’s data farm and we do have multiple servers recording data, we simply do not have the same resources available as a premium historical data feed connection would be able to offer.

In your scenario however, you may be simply thinking. Doesn't matter what the reasoning is or how it works, the fact still remains that for my trading style I depend heavily on historical data. In this case NinjaTrader does have options available to you. NinjaTrader is flexible enough to connect to multiple providers at the same time. Furthermore you could continue to use the live streaming data from CQG and at the same time get historical data provided from a premium historical data provider. You can for example go into the NinjaTrader Control Center->Tools->Account Connections->Change your CQG connection and set Historical data option to “Disabled”. Then you can connect to CQG to get live data only from CQG. To then get historical data into NinjaTrader you would connect then make a second connection to a service like www.kinetick.com . This would provide you live data from CQG and historical data from Kinetick. You would also reduce costs in this configuration as you would only need to purchase the base Kinetick subscription (No separate exchange purchases needed as you would already have the live data from CQG).

Please let me know if you have any questions.

What is the relationship between NT and Kinetick, are there any co-owners or directors for instance?
Or why is Kinetick marketed by NT ? And can Kinetick return a favour and allow NT users access to a few days worth of historical on an adhoc basis if and when your much appreciated free service goes down?
Consistent historical data is also beneficial to NT support as most clients use it to some degree and fishing out problems in multiple versions of data would be problematic.

Kinetick is a brand owned and operated by NinjaTrader.

Due to this we are able to optimize the data feed to work with NinjaTrader, and do so at a price less than comparable feeds, but we are unable to provide premium access at no cost.

Kinetick does offer free end of day data to all NinjaTrader users, this is for historical data on daily charts only. If you needed intra day or live data you would need to purchase a subscription.

Thats what I thought and I assume the same problems will apply to that service, or will Kinetick provide guarantees of uptime and data to support that?

                    Hello,

Kinetick is a premium data service run on its own server farm that are fully staffed with incoming data being monitored for accuracy. There is no relation between the CQG Historical data servers and the Kinetick service.

Kinetick provide many features and services, if you have any further questions on Kinetick please contact them directly and they will be able to answer any questions you may have at [email protected]

                        This information is located here:

The base fee at this time is $50 dollars per month. If you used the CQG live data and just used Kinetick for historical thats all you would need to purchase unless you also wanted live data from Kinetick in which case you would need to subscribe to the exchange in the sign up.

Brett, many thanks for your detailed explanation. Although this recurring issue has made my blood boil as much as the next guy, I'm now reassured that NinjaTrader is the package for me. The worst part is feeling like a mushroom, thanks for turning the lights on.

Over the past couple of years you guys have provided me with a premium trading package for free; too often these days I guess we expect something for nothing.

I'll be paying for my live NinjaTrader licence, and a reliable alternative data feed, from January 1, and wish you and all at NinjaTrader a happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year, with thanks for all your help so far.

When I save RT data as historical will this be erased if I open and close NT? If I want to ensure my data is accurate for thu and fri trading do I need to keep my PC and connection to CQG running 24 hours without interruption?

                                Thanks.
